Somewhere along the way, "coach," "counselor," and "mentor" started getting used like they mean the same thing. They don't. And for a couple deciding where to invest their time, their trust, and often a genuinely difficult season of their marriage, the difference is worth understanding clearly before you choose.

Here's the honest truth: we never set out to build a brand around any of these words. The couples we've served are the ones who gave us the language — and more often than not, the word that came back to us was mentor. A couple further down the road, sitting with a couple earlier in the journey. That's closer to the truth of what happens here than any title we'd have picked for ourselves. You may still see Post & Gate listed online as a marriage coaching ministry, since that's the more commonly searched term — and it's not wrong, exactly. But if you ask us plainly what we think we are, it's mentors.

The Heart Behind the Work
"Generational ministry established to redeem the covenant of marriage for those to follow us and create an inheritance of legacy."

That's the whole of it. Not a coaching brand to build. Not a credential to defend. A calling to serve the covenant a couple already made to each other — and to help build something their children, and their children's children, can actually inherit.

We want to be straightforward about the practical side of this too, because we think couples deserve straightforward answers. Caleb and Carla are not licensed therapists, psychologists, or clinical counselors. They are Forgiveness Coaches through Forgiving Forward, and the creators of the FAVE framework — built inside their own marriage, not handed to them by anyone else. Post & Gate is a marriage mentoring ministry, if a name is needed for it. Not a clinical practice. That's not a disclaimer buried in fine print — it is the entire reason this ministry exists the way it does.

We Mentor Marriages. We Don't Diagnose Them.

Licensed counselors and therapists do essential work. They're trained, credentialed, and equipped to diagnose and treat real clinical needs — trauma, mental illness, crisis intervention. We have deep respect for that calling, and it isn't ours. Post & Gate was never built to compete with it, and it was never built to replace it. It was built to do something different: help couples who are already functioning well build a marriage on purpose, together, using a framework we didn't learn in a classroom — we built it inside our own marriage, over nearly thirty years.

Mentoring is a different discipline. It is not a regulated or licensed profession in the United States — no state issues a marriage mentoring license, because mentoring isn't clinical treatment. We walk alongside couples who are already functioning well and want a clearer foundation, a shared framework, and forward motion together.

That's the heart of what we do. We want to help you fix what's broken, correct the patterns that are hurting your marriage, and move forward together as a team — which is exactly why forgiveness coaching sits at the center of everything we teach. Forgiveness isn't about pretending nothing happened. It's what lets a couple stop carrying yesterday into tomorrow and start building again.

Our Approach

Built to Move Forward

We help couples name where they're going and build the structure to get there — together, on purpose. It's active, practical work, done side by side.
Our Credential

Nearly Thirty Years, Lived

We didn't learn this framework in a classroom. We built it inside our own marriage — through cancer, financial loss, and every ordinary hard season a real marriage passes through — and we're still choosing each other, on purpose, every day.
Who It's For

Crisis vs. Quiet Tension

If your marriage involves abuse, addiction, untreated mental illness, or trauma that needs clinical care, you need a licensed counselor — and we will tell you that directly. Mentoring is for the couple that is functioning, capable, and ready to get intentional.
We're not trying to be something we're not. We're mentors who've spent nearly thirty years building the marriage we walk couples through from — and we exist for the couple who's ready to build something on purpose, together.

Our Credential Is Our Marriage.

Caleb and Carla have been married nearly thirty years. They've raised five children, walked through cancer, financial loss, and every ordinary hard season a real marriage passes through — and they are still, by choice, on the same side of the table. That is the qualification behind Post & Gate. Not a degree. Nearly thirty years of choosing each other, in public, on purpose.

That is exactly what mentoring is built to offer: not clinical treatment, but a proven framework, delivered by two people who have actually lived it, aimed at couples who are ready to build rather than couples in crisis. We say that plainly because it matters — both to your trust in us, and to your actual safety. If what you're carrying needs a licensed therapist, we will say so, and we will point you toward one. That's not a failure of the ministry. That's the ministry working correctly.

Where We Draw the Line

We believe God can restore any marriage — we've watched Him do it in our own. But that belief doesn't erase the practical need for the right kind of help at the right time. If a couple comes to us and what's underneath the "quiet tension" turns out to be active abuse, untreated addiction, or trauma that needs clinical care, we say so honestly, and we point them toward a licensed counselor or therapist before anything else. Mentoring is not a substitute for that kind of help. It was never meant to be. Knowing the difference, and referring out when it's needed, is part of doing this responsibly.

"Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."
Deuteronomy 6:9

Foundation. Agreement. Vision. Built Together, However You Need It.

The FAVE framework is the structure behind everything we do. It's not a diagnosis or a treatment plan — it's a build process. Couples name the foundation their marriage is actually standing on, put words to an agreement about how they'll move forward, and write a shared vision for their household, together, out loud, often for the first time in years or decades of marriage.

The FAV Weekend™ is where that happens — offered four ways: Caleb and Carla can come to your church or organization, it can be done Live and Virtual from your own home, as a Local Experience near Spartanburg, or as a full Destination Retreat. Every format is small-group, guided directly by Caleb and Carla — a handful of couples doing the same work at the same time, not a one-on-one session.

Not therapy. Not a program. A build.

The FAV Weekend™ is mentoring, done in small groups.

Two days. Foundation. Agreement. Vision. Execution. No clinical treatment, no diagnosis — just a proven framework, delivered by a couple who's actually lived it, alongside a small group of couples doing the same work.
